Among all the children she bore there was none to guide her;
among all the children she reared there was none to take her by the hand.
(Because God's people have drunk from the cup that makes men stagger,
the consequences of their sin and rebellion,
they reel under the burden of the consequences of their choices.
As if they were drunk with wine, as they seek help,
they can find no one who is able to hold them steady
or guide them back to the soberness of walking in God's holy ways,
not even their spiritual leaders who themselves are also staggering and lost.
Drawn to the same dregs of disobedience, not only are the leaders of Israel
unable to comfort themselves as they stagger under the heaviness of exile,
they are also unable to comfort the people whom they are supposed to lead.
Today, because we as the Body of Christ have been lukewarm and asleep,
we have not raised up the next leaders to call us back to God.
Today, because we have no one to whom to turn,
out of desperation, we may be seeking someone
to guide us and take us by the hand to lead us
out of the place of rebellion against God,
out of the place of foolish choices,
out of the place of exile that life has heaped upon us,
but we can find no help or solace from man or the leaders to whom we look.
Today, our only hope is in Christ Himself.
He is the One Who guides us, takes us by the hand,
and leads us out of the hopelessness in which we find ourselves.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
In Christ's love,
