Therefore I told you these things long ago;
before they happened I announced them to you
(Even though we persist in trying to find our own means of control and "salvation,"
in His omniscience and endless love for us,
the Lord declared from ancient times how He would deliver us,
how He would save us, how He would provide for us,
speaking the end result before our need
for salvation and rescue even evidenced themselves.)
so that you could not say, ‘My images brought them about;
my wooden image and metal god ordained them.’
(He purposely foretells to us His proclamations and promises
because He knows how prone we are to take credit for a positive outcome
for events over whuch we can claim some power
or to rationalize away His godly intervention by claiming it was a coincidence
or that some other influence had brought about a resolution.
We even claim that the gods we so eagerly turn to
are responsible for the victorious outcome,
such gods as our own ability to effect the world around us,
the people in whom we place our trust,
or the material resources we can access and bring to bear on situations.)
You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them?"
(He longs for us to yield to His plea to acknowledge Him and His works,
to both acknowledge and submit to His revelations of Himself and His plans.
As we yield to Him today, He pleads with us even today
to open our eyes to see Him and His work in our lives,
the acknowledgement of which, in turn, reaps in us
the great peace and comfort and victory for which we long and need today.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
