The Lord Be With You Today!
“Present your case,” says the Lord.
“Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.
(In His desire to call us to account,
to cause us to look at ourselves and where we place our trust,
the Lord speaks to the dumb idols in our lives to which we give honor.)
“Tell us, you idols, what is going to happen.
Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them
and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come,
tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods.
Do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear.
(We are so eager to fall into the trap
of turning away from the Lord as our Source and Provision
and turning toward the wood and stone idols in our lives,
to anything or anyone who comes between us and God,
anything or anyone to whom we give greater attention and devotion than to God.
Here, the Lord in His love and mercy pleads with us
to see the foolishness of looking to those idols that have no power,
no foresight, no hindsight, no ability to intervene,
nothing to make them desirable, nothing to inspire respect and awe toward them.)
But you are less than nothing and your works are utterly worthless;
whoever chooses you is detestable."
(Here is the Lord’s measurement and assessment of these false gods in our lives.
When we persist in choosing the detestable and abominable,
we can’t help but to become ourselves detestable and abominable.
It is the law of reaping what we have sown.
Lord, help us today to recognize those foolish places
where we put out trust, to eschew them, and to turn to You.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
