The Lord Be With You Today!

Christ Is Risen!
He Is Risen, Indeed!
Acts 1:4-11
On one occasion, while He was eating with them,
(What a tender picture of Jesus revealing Himself still fully human
as He breaks bread with His disciples in fellowship and community.

As we eat of the Bread of Life that He offers us today,
what a wonder that Jesus still today fellowships with us
through the meal of the Covenant promise that He has made with us.)
He gave them this command:
Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised,
which you have heard Me speak about.
For John baptized with water, but in a few days
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit
(Jesus promised He would never leave us, that He would be with us always
through His gift of the Holy Spirit, a part of Himself,
Who will be everything and more to us today
that Jesus Himself was to His disciples.
Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus is more than beside us
as He was when He walked with His disciples.
Now, He dwells within us.)
Then they gathered around Him and asked Him,
“Lord, are You at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them:
It is not for you to know the times or dates
the Father has set by His Own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;
and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth
(Still failing to understand the Kingdom that Jesus has ushered in,
the disciples have not yet experienced, but will soon receive,
the fullness of that Kingdom that Jesus is offering them.
Today the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand for us.
The same gift He poured out over His disciples is ours today
as He breathes into us His Holy Spirit to be His Presence within us
and to empower us to fulfill His purposes and His mission in our lives.)
After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes,
and a cloud hid Him from their sight.
(Again, in full view of many witnesses, Jesus removes Himself
from their presence and from His physical residence on the earth
and ascends into Heaven, the final phase of the miracle of the Resurrection,
where He sits beside the Father,
and, close to the Father’s ear, intercedes for us.)
They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going,
when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them.
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky?
This same Jesus, Who has been taken from you into heaven,
will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.”
(The wonder of Christ’s ascension is small
compared to the glory of His returning
and the fulfillment of our hope that He will return in His fullness
to take us to Himself at His Second Coming!)
Christ Is Risen!
He Is Risen, Indeed!

May the Lord richly bless you this day!

In Christ’s love,
