The Lord Be With You Today!
Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him,
He touched the socket of his hip;
and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
(The Lord saw and allowed Jacob to see Jacob’s determination
to grapple with Him, as well as Jacob’s refusal to let go
despite the long hours of struggle through the night.
The Lord could easily have disposed quickly of His interactions with Jacob,
but had chosen, instead, to let Jacob pour out
all his efforts and strength to connect with his God
allowing Jacob to build his faith as He wrestled through the night.
Finally, the Lord touched Jacob at the center of his strength,
at his hip and thigh, so that his walk would be altered
and so that he would always have to lean on the Lord for his strength.
The Lord chose to mark Jacob to show him
that He is the One Who ultimately prevails,
that Jacob was allowed to wrestle with the Lord
because of the Lord’s mercy and forbearance,
that he could no longer stand alone without God,
and as a reminder that Jacob had been in the very Presence of God Himself,
a lasting testament to the Lord’s work in Jacob’s life.
We, too, have been marked by Holy Spirit.
As we wrestle through the difficulties and challenges of life with the Lord,
He causes us to have to lean on Him,
often striking us in the very center of our own strength,
never again to be able to go it alone,
and to build our faith as we see
the Lord’s faithful and determined interactions with us.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
