The Lord Be With You Today!
"They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them,
for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands."
(When King Hezekiah was threatened by an invading army
and took his need to the Lord in prayer,
God included that prayer in Scripture as a model for us to study and use
when we pray about our own needs today.
Contrary to the way we often think about God and the enemy,
perhaps unconsciously, that there are two fairly equal powers in the cosmos
fighting it out and the outcome is uncertain and could go either way,
Hezekiah’s prayer reminds us
that is a completely false and wrong assumption
and that God alone is the supreme power
in the universe and in the lives of men.
Any power of the enemy is so far beneath
the sovereignty and magnitude of Almighty God that it isn’t even measurable.
Hezekiah acknowledges that the gods of the vanquished peoples
were absolutely nothing more than man-made idols,
completely unable to effect any protection or deliverance for them,
reminding himself as he prays of the vast difference
in those gods forged out of human concepts
and the Lord God Almighty Who is his God.
No matter what or who comes against us today,
we can, like Hezekiah declare with full power of complete truth
that the forces behind situations against us today
are mere human in nature or from an enemy of our soul
that is as far beneath God’s mighty power over us
as the farthest heavens are above the depths of the earth.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
