The Lord Be With You Today!
The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a marker;
he roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses.
He shapes it in human form, human form in all its glory,
that it may dwell in a shrine.
(Like carpenters who take raw materials and shape them into a thing,
we try to do the impossible, to craft out of the work of our own hands,
out of the vain imaginations of our own thinking,
a human form, a human shape, with great power,
and we try to reshape the God Who Is into a form of our liking,
into something that looks like us,
into something to which we think we can more easily relate,
even into something we think we can manipulate
The only pitiable god image of which we can conceive
is something or someone that looks like us.
The Lord calls for us today to spend our efforts,
not in worshiping the pitiable work of our hands, but in worshiping Him,
the One Who is beyond our human comprehension,
the One Who is so completely Other,
that we cannot even formulate His likeness in our thinking.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
