The Lord Be With You Today!
“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker,
those who are nothing but potsherds
among the potsherds on the ground.
Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’
Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?
(How foolish to ever think that a piece of pottery,
or, even that much less likely, a broken piece of earthenware,
would be audacious enough to question or mock its creator.
Yet, in so many ways, we, as frail, broken earthen vessels,
so often try to challenge our Maker
and even turn our backs on Him in defiance and disdain.
By trying to make God a human-sized god
that we can understand and order around
is one way that we as the created try to control the Creator.)
Woe to the one who says to a father, ‘What have you begotten?’
or to a mother, ‘What have you brought to birth?’
“This is what the Lord says—the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker:
Concerning things to come, do you question Me about My children,
or give Me orders about the work of My hands?"
(Just as presumptuous and unfitting as it would be
for children to argue with their parents
about the parents’ position of authority,
so it is unacceptable for us as God’s offspring
to arrogantly call into question His position and purposes.
When we defy His commands,
when we turn our backs on His offer of salvation,
when we reject His ways,
we are, in effect, giving Him orders about the work of His hands.
He calls us today to be obedient
and to submit to His Lordship over us whom He has created
and for whom He always tenderly and faithfully provides
in His Own omniscient, omnipotent, and loving way.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
In Christ’s love,
