As surely as I live,” declares the Lord,
(Occasionally, to ensure we understand
the solemnity and seriousness of what He is saying,
the Lord takes an oath that what He is saying will be carried out.
Such an introduction to a promise gives us an extra emphasis
to the pledge the Lord is making to us.)
“you will wear them all as ornaments;
(Like a crown adorning the head of a bride.)
you will put them on, like a bride."
(Like the wedding gown and jewels of a bride.
Where once God's people have been clothed in the shame of their sin
and of their turning away from the covenant that God had made with them,
He declares unequivocally that He will clothe them
with the bridal garments of great celebration and honor.
Their garments of honor refer partly to the many Gentiles
who will be welcomed into the Kingdom,
considered the issue of God's people to whom He had first presented His message,
but which has now been extended to you and me.
Their garments of honor also are metaphorical references
to the places in our lives where the Lord
has turned the captivity in our lives of sin and exile
into our offspring of growth and maturation in Him.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
In Christ's love,
