The Lord Be With You Today!
Can plunder be taken from warriors, or captives be rescued from the fierce?
(The Babylonians had invaded Jerusalem. Zion is devastated and lying in ruins.
The Israelites are in bondage and living in exile.
Mighty Babylon seems unconquerable.
Not only are God's people living in captivity
because they have been overcome by a mighty, invading army,
but they are also living in captivity because they had forsaken God
and are living out the consequences of having broken covenant with God.
Yet God has heard their cries, seen their repentance, forgiven their waywardness,
and promised them deliverance.
In joyful amazement, Zion answers the Lord's declarations of redemption
with awed wonder and a thankful and resounding yes to His offer of deliverance!
Today, we may be looking at God's promises with the same amazed wonder,
even asking ourselves if what He says can really be true for us.
And the answer from Him back to us remains a very present and resounding yes!
The Lord really can take plunder from that which holds us captive today
and rescue us from the fierce forces of the world.
And that's what He declares to us today,
that He will rescue the wealth that has been stolen from our lives as plunder
and rescue us from the captors that hold us in bondage.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
