Was my arm too short to deliver you? Do I lack the strength to rescue you?
(The Lord challenges His people to search their hearts
in answer to His questions relating to their obvious view of Him,
obvious because they neither heeded His call nor called out to Him in their need.
Had they truly believed He was their Deliverer,
had they truly believed He had the strength and ability
to rescue them from the hold of their enemy,
they would have listened to Him when He revealed Himself to them
both through His Word and through His messengers.
Today, the Lord still asks us the same questions.
Do we only give mental assent to God and His promises and declarations,
or do we stand on the foundation of the truth of Who God says He is.
We, like Israel of old, too often place this Eternal, Self-Existent, Great I AM
in a human-sized box with limitations to what our eyes can see,
to what we can intellectually understand and conceive,
making Him fit within our understanding only to the edges of our own imaginations.
Or, do we really believe that God is our Deliverer today
and that He has the strength to rescue us from all our troubles.
When we look clear-eyed at the Lord's questions, we are reminded once again
that God is Almighty God and able beyond our widest imaginations.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
