"I clothe the heavens with darkness and make sackcloth its covering.”
when He opened up the waters to allow His people to walk through on dry ground
during their departure from Egyptian slavery,
again, the Lord reminds His people of His sovereign might,
this time referring to the heavens' subjection to His power,
recalling for them the thick darkness
that He spread over Egypt in one of the plagues.
During that time, He caused the glorious lights of the heavens
to clothe themselves with the mourning sackcloth of darkness and storm clouds,
proving yet again that the Lord will do whatever is necessary to free His people.
Just as the Lord spoke darkness over the oppressors of His people
to defeat them and to show Israel His indomitable power,
He still today brings our enemy under His subjection.
Today He reminds us in His declaration here that the Egyptian plague of darkness
was a mere symbol that He Who created light could,
if He chooses, snuff it out as easily as He spoke it into being.
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
In Christ's love,
