Was it not You Who cut Rahab to pieces, Who pierced that monster through?
and who are suffering from the consequences
of their refusal to follow in the path the Lord laid out for them
resounds with the truth of God's past works on behalf of His people.
Rahab is a symbol of Egypt, whose Hebrew meaning points to pride or arrogance,
with Egypt here portrayed as being hewn to pieces by the Lord
when He divided the Red Sea as the means of escape for His people.
The monster or dragon is the Pharaoh
whom the Lord also defeated and destroyed in that same series of events.
When we cry out to the Lord for His deliverance,
we need to remember what the Lord has done in our own past,
first, in the most fundamental, elemental, foundational way,
that He has delivered us from the enslavement of the Egypt
of own sin nature which defined us in our pride and arrogance and rebellion
and that He has slain the dragon of sin that ruled over us.
Then, we need to recall the other places of intervention and deliverance
the Lord has accomplished over and in and through our lives,
those places of fear and anger and hopelessness,
those places where we needed to forgive,
those places of bondage and enslavement due to our disobedience to God's ways,
those places where we needed to let go of martyrdom
and be thankful for all the blessings with which He showers us
When we think of all He has done, we can be assured of all that He will do today, as well.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!In Christ's love,
