The Lord Be With You Today!

Exodus 3:1-2, 4
Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro
his father-in-law, the priest of Midian,
and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness
and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
(Moses never expected to be on the far side of the desert,
away from all he had known and accepted,
rejected by his own people as well as his adopted people,
cut off from everything that was familiar to him,
separated from loved ones and the privileged life he had known,
and doing a job he never expected to be doing.
Living now in an unknown place, in lowly circumstances,
no longer a prince, but now only a mere shepherd,
he was trying desperately to make a new life from nothing.
His life had been turned upside down and inside out,
completely and irrevocably changed.
We may find ourselves in a similar place today
on the far side of the desert wilderness,
in an unfamiliar and unwelcoming and hard, hard place.)
There the angel of the Lord appeared to him
in flames of fire from within a bush.
Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. . . .
When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look,
God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
(Moses discovered in that deserted, remote desert place
that the Lord Himself was right there with him.
All he had to do was look and see.
God Himself appeared to Moses. He had been there all along.
Not only did He make Himself known to Moses,
but He appeared to Moses in a powerful display
of the blazing fire of His mighty presence.
All Moses did was look up and see Who was before Him.
Today, the Lord is present with us in the desert places.
As we look up, as we look to Him, He displays Himself to us
in the fire of His presence and calls us by name.
He hasn’t forgotten us. He hasn’t left us. He hasn’t deserted us.
He makes Himself known to us and calls to us,
inviting us to walk into His presence
and to listen to His words of truth for us and His plans for us.)

May the Lord richly bless you this day!
