The Lord Be With You Today!
I will not accuse them forever, nor will I always be angry,
for then they would faint away because of Me—
the very people I have created.
(God’s people had been disobedient and unfaithful,
following after idols and worshiping other so-called gods.
They had suffered harsh consequences for their actions,
having been exiled into foreign Babylon and taken from their homes,
but the Lord is telling them that their punishment is over.
The Lord assures us here that there is also an end to the trials we face today,
that His just judgment and discipline that allow us to experience
the consequences of our choices have an end,
that He knows the limits to our abilities to endure His disfavor,
and that He is lovingly mindful of the very ones He created in His image.
His mercies to us are new each day for all our needs,
and His discipline is tempered and curbed by His great love for us.
In His complete and untainted holiness
and in His righteous and just judgment,
His accusations and anger are appropriate and right.
If the Lord didn’t express His anger at sin and disobedience,
we could not call Him a just God.
Only a just and righteous God will also judge and hold us accountable
when we stray from His ways.
He also guards the exact limit and boundary for His anger,
after which the hope we have in Him
is that He extends mercy and grace to those who are suffering.
His disfavor is followed up with His great mercy.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
