The Lord Be With You Today!

Isaiah 59:3-8
For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt.
Your lips have spoken falsely, and your tongue mutters wicked things.
(The Lord is speaking not to pagans who don’t profess any faith in Him,
not to the evil people of the world who are in rebellion against Him,
but to His Own, to the people with whom He is in covenant,
to those who are called by His people.)
No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity.
They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies;
they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.
They hatch the eggs of vipers and spin a spider’s web.
Whoever eats their eggs will die, and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.
Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
they cannot cover themselves with what they make
Their deeds are evil deeds, and acts of violence are in their hands.
Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood.
They pursue evil schemes; acts of violence mark their ways.
The way of peace they do not know; there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;
no one who walks along them will know peace.
(In an unrelenting, harsh, and unremitting indictment against His people,
the Lord reveals their evil and unrepentant ways.
He is describing in the starkest terms the reality of man’s sinful nature.
Without Him, this is who we are still today.
We may, like Israel of old, try to put a mask over our true inner being,
to hide our real selves with an occasional outward show of religious virtue,
but inside we are filled with greed, self-aggrandizement,
attempts to control and dominate people and situations,
selfishness, self-centeredness, and violent words and attitudes.
At other times, we may throw off all constraints
and try to seize all we can at whatever cost from whoever is in our way.
As unpleasant and difficult as it is to admit, left to ourselves, this is who we are.
Only through the Lord, only through His salvation, His forgiveness, His mercy,
only through Him today can we be transformed into His righteousness.)

May the Lord richly bless you this day!

In Christ’s love,
