The Lord Be With You Today!Isaiah 61:11
For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
(Isaiah describes the tender sprouts that first appear
in the early spring after the death and cold of winter.
He also speaks here both of the plenty and abundance
of the growth He describes, as well as picturing
the absolute dependence of the seeds
on the forces around them to cause them to grow and prosper.
The seeds do not work and toil to make themselves grow and change.
They thrive because of external exertions and interactions over them.)
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations.
(Just as certain as is the new growth of seeds in spring,
just as certain is the appearance of the Lord and His righteousness
made manifest through His salvation.
The Lord’s Own righteousness shows itself and springs forth
just as plentifully and abundantly.
And, as the Lord’s inheritance, as His reflection and outreach and voice here on earth,
you and I are the righteousness and praise of the Lord.
We ourselves are the seeds of righteousness that the Lord has sown.
Though we may not even often see or acknowledge Him and His goodness,
He and His righteousness are imminently evident in all the world around us.
And just as seeds do not strive to grow and mature,
but rely on the impact of the place where it lies,
so we as God’s people do not struggle and toil to become righteous,
but rely on God to complete His work of righteousness in us.
Just as the first sprouts of springtime are tender and weak,
so we as God’s people are tender and weak in our own strength.
It is He Who makes us righteous, He Who makes us strong,
and nothing we can do can cause that to happen nor can we attain it in ourselves.)
May the Lord richly bless you this day!
